STATE OF PLAY

Valheim currently stands as an early access game and has since its release in February 2021, however is reaching the end of its early access development with the final update soon to come out. Valheim has just recently achieved its 5th anniversary and continues with a strong and loyal fanbase.

Future Updates

The Valheim developers are currently focusing on the games final major early access update, the Deep North Update. This update will introduce a new and final update into the game and marks its official 1.0 release. This biome will also include many new features such as weapons, foods, enemies, materials, and most likely a new and final boss.

Some other smaller updates are also planning to come out eventually such as a combat update, reworking many combat mechanics, as well as working to expand its platforms to PlayStation.

  • 0.221.10 – Five Years of Valheim Update ( February 2026 )
    • Introduced many new emotes, build pieces, and cosmetics into the game.
    • Also added many bug fixes are added and some other minor rebalances.
  • 0.221.4 – Call to Arms Update ( September 2025 )
    • Introduced some new enemies such as the Bear and Vile along with some new foods, weapons, an armour set and numerous other materials for crafting and building.
    • Also introduced trinkets to the game, as well as minor bug fixes and combat changes.
  • 0.219.13 – The Bog Witch Update ( October 2024 )
    • Introduced a new NPC into the swamp biome called The Bog Witch, who sells some new useful items.
    • Additionally, many new items, skills, foods, and some new meads.
  • 0.218.15 – Ashlands Update ( May 2024 )
    • Introduced a new biome into the game called the Ashlands, located in the bottom south edge of the world. With this biome, numerous new eneies, weapons, items, and a new boss were added.
    • New locations, structures, and damage types were also introduced with this major update.
  • 0.217.14 – Hildir’s Request Update ( August 2023 )
    • Introduced a new NPC into the game, Hildir the merchant. This NPC brought many new cosmetic items to the game and even a short questline.
    • Some new locations and mini bosses were also added in this update.
  • 0.212.7 – Mistlands Update ( December 2022 )
    • Introduced a new biome called the Mistlands, filled with many new enemies, weapons, items, and even a new boss. This biome and update also brought magic into the game with new weapons of both elemental and blood magic.
    • This update also added a few generic food items to other biomes such as mushrooms.
  • 0.207.2 – Frost Caves Update ( March 2022 )
    • Introduced Frost Caves as a dungeon in the Mountains biome, including some new enemies and items found in the caves.
    • Also added many quality of life features, as well as full controller support and availability on Steam Deck.
  • 0.202.14 - Hearth & Home Update ( September 2021 )
    • Introduced many weapon new weapons, shields, food items, and some new crafting and building items.
    • Also overhauled the weapons & blocking system, as well as the food system, adding many rebalances to certain items.
